Privacy Policy

The short version

We collect the minimum information needed to run Videocall — your account, your contacts list, and the messages and files you choose to send. Calls connect directly between participants when the network allows and are not recorded. We do not sell your data, and we do not show ads.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the Videocall extension and website (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information We Collect

Account data. When you register, we store your username and a securely hashed password.

Contacts. We store the list of users you add as contacts so we can show their online status and route calls and messages.

Messages and files. Text messages and files you send through chat are stored on our servers so they can be delivered to the recipient. Messages remain available in your conversation history until you or the recipient deletes them.

Call signaling. To establish a call we exchange technical signaling information (such as session offers and ICE candidates) between participants. The audio and video itself is sent peer-to-peer whenever possible; if direct connection fails, traffic is relayed through a TURN server. We do not record or store the contents of calls.

Technical data. Our servers automatically receive standard request metadata such as IP address, user agent, and timestamps. We use this to operate the Service, prevent abuse, and diagnose problems.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use the information we collect to:

3. What We Do Not Do

4. Sharing of Information

We share data only in these limited cases:

5. Data Retention

We keep your account data while your account is active. Messages and files remain on our servers until deleted by you or the other participant in the conversation, or for as long as is necessary to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

6. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including password hashing, encrypted transport (HTTPS / WSS), and access controls on our servers. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work hard to keep your data safe.

7. International Users

Our servers may be located outside your country of residence. By using the Service, you understand that your data may be transferred to and processed in jurisdictions with different data protection laws than your own.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these rights directly in the app — for example, by editing your profile, deleting messages, or deleting your account. For anything else, contact us at the address below.

9. Browser Permissions

The Videocall extension asks for browser permissions only as needed to provide the Service — for example, access to your camera and microphone (when you start a call) and storage (to keep you signed in). You can revoke these permissions at any time from your browser settings.

10. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
